The COVID-19 crisis isn’t over yet. In fact, with the emergence of the Delta variant, it’s made a comeback stronger than ever and is still proving to be a powerful nemesis for healthcare personnel everywhere.

That means hospital beds will be filled with pandemic patients for the foreseeable future, and that the shortage of skilled nurses, doctors, and hospital technicians will continue into 2022. That being the case, more pressure will be exerted on physician-owned hospitals (POHs) and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) as they continue to handle the patient overflow from larger hospitals. All this will serve to make it even more critical for these facilities to optimize Operating Rooms so they can achieve all possible efficiencies for the coming year.

Other challenges

At present, there are 46 million adults in the U.S. who are older than age 65, and that number will increase by 18 million between the years 2020 and 2030, so the rising geriatric population will add to the pressure being put on healthcare facilities. As people age, more and more healthcare services must be provided to keep them healthy, and much of that care will fall on ASC’s and POHs since regular hospitals will not likely be able to accommodate them.

Just a few years ago, the World Health Organization forecast a 57 percent increase in the prevalence of major diseases for 2020 and beyond, and those statistics are being proven correct. There are even a number of new diseases that have been brought from less developed countries into more advanced countries because social barriers are being removed and travel is so easy. In fact, COVID-19 is a good example of one of these newer diseases that have wrought havoc all around the globe.

All this being said, it is in their own best interests ASCs and POHs to streamline their OR procedures in any way possible, to meet the challenges of a great many more patients. One of the best ways to accomplish this is by implementing the DinamicOR Back Table Solution, which quickly organizes all medical tools and instruments on an adjustable back table, resting on a heavy-duty drape for easy visibility and quick retrieval. The Workflow App that is part of the Back Table Solution can be used as a repository for all OR procedures, and this will standardize processes, so all OR personnel can be in sync, and so repeatability can lead to exceptional efficiency.
